Changed the Spark Plugs

Today I changed the spark plugs, to be honest, I wasn't entirely impressed with the difference. The car does seem a little more responsive but the rough start and occasional stall upon starting is still going on. I'm going to have a check that the spark plugs I have been sent are correctly gapped over the weekend. The previous owner seemed to have installed two different types of spark plugs (Bosch Super 4s and NGKs) so I think this was definitely worth while!

A few pics...

I thought I'd take the chance to upload a couple of pictures of my Benz. I plan to change the amber indicators for a clear pair in the next week or so. As you can see from the second picture, I have installed the new seats. I will get some more pictures of the interior once I've had a chance to properly clear the car out.

Engine Misfiring

My 190E has been misfiring, it was especially noticeable when I was starting the engine and at lower speeds. I plan to fit new spark plugs, spark plug leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. Today I installed new HT leads which I got from ebay for just £17.00 including postage, that has to be a bargain! To install the master lead from the ignition coil I had to remove the air filter to get to it and the other leads must have been very old as they were a nightmare to get off but it only took half an hour to change all six leads.
So, I bolted the air filter back in put the breather hose back into place and started the engine. It sounds a lot better and it's no longer misfiring. Hopefully when I get to finish installing all the new ignition components the car will start like new!

New interior for my 190e (Part One)

When I got my 190E, it had cream leather interior but was extremely dirty and the seats were very 'classic car' looking (check the pictures). They weren't in such a great condition neither. I managed to grab another full cream interior from eBay for £200, this gave me a chance to replace all the seats. I've also now had the chance to replace my rear door cards as the leather covering was coming unstuck from the door card itself. The pics below are of the old interior.

How I fixed my broken central locking

Hi, as you may be aware upon purchasing my 190E the central locking was not working, the door seemed to whir for quite a while but it wasn't working. One thing I did notice was there seemed to be a sligh hissing beneath the drivers side (right-hand - UK) footwell.

So I pulled up the carpet on the floor to be greeted with a bunch of wires and tubes. On my model, there was a bright yellow tube which had become disconnected, I reconnected this and everything was tickety boo again. I'll get some pictures over the next few days as I'll be installing my new cream leather interior so will be able to pull everything out without too much hassle.

My new 190E

I have purchased another Mercedes Benz 190E. Unfortunately I didn't feel my old car would suffice over time, the problems with it were just going to end up being far too costly. So I have replaced it. I now have a 1987 190E 2.6 Automatic, it's got the full cosworth kit and cream leather interior.

However, as with seemingly ever 190E, this is not a perfect car! The problems I am currently having with this car are:
  • Front passenger window not working
  • Rear drivers side window not working
  • Central locking not working
  • Odometer not working
  • Slight rust on wheel arches
  • Upon starting the car, it's rough for the first few seconds and will stall unless I press on the accelerator slightly. After starting, the car runs fine.
I will post pictures and progress on the new (well it's actually a year older than me) Merc as and when I complete tasks.
